The Post Office Precinct is one of Ngai Tahus largest developments outside Christchurch representing an investment of $80million. The precinct incorporating 2,083m2 of retail space, 5,393m2 of office area is located on an historic site alongside Horne Creek.
This area was previously occupied by the town's original Post Office Building and the Pig and Whistle Bar.
Cosgroves have been involved with the Development since preliminary works commenced in 2004 covering all mechanical, electrical and fire services. The site comprising four new buildings and the refurbished Old Courthouse is sympathetic with the historic nature of the site and, whilst retaining a sense of history, provides modern flexible commercial accommodation alongside a vibrant mix of retail and hospitality outlets.
Building 1 is the final structure to be completed providing fully air conditioned office accommodation. The air tempering has been achieved utilising a reverse cycle system in lieu of the more conventional electric heater batteries.
The precinct has great street appeal enhanced by the treatment of the exterior lighting which concentrates on the buildings facades and texture. The exterior lighting to the Pig and Whistle won two lighting awards including a Dark Skies award at the New Zealand Lighting Awards.
