The new Les Mills gym located in central Christchurch opened recently and has already been acclaimed as a world class facility. The building is located in Cashel Street and incorporates many green engineering principles to improve the gym environment and reduce operating overheads.

Cosgroves provided the mechanical, electrical, fire and hydraulic services design for the new building, as well as fit-out of a temporary premises during the construction period.

Seven large roof level air handlers reduce heating costs by recovering heat from the exhaust air or through increased outdoor air for economiser cooling. Waste water heat recovery reduces hot water energy consumption by recovering heat from the shower wastes.

The design process used computer simulations to assist in defining the ventilation strategies such as unoccupied night time ventilation and energy recovery plant design.

The integrated building services design by Cosgroves incorporated innovative features to achieve a successful outcome for Les Mills and the many gym patrons happily using this facility.
