Fire Design Engineer

An opportunity has arisen to join a leading and well-respected multi-discipline, engineering consultancy working on projects throughout New Zealand. Specialising in fire, mechanical, hydraulics, civil, electrical and sustainable engineering, we have offices in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Based in our Queenstown office, the successful candidate will primarily assist the Fire Engineering and Fire Protection Systems team including development of design solutions, contract observation and liaising with Clients, Architects and other Engineers to deliver successful fire engineering outcomes on projects. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team documenting engineering design work for a wide variety of local and New Zealand projects. To succeed in this role, ideally you have:

  • Up to 5 years’ industry experience and are a team player and self-starter.
  • An understanding of fire engineering safety design principles and related NZ Regulation, and some previous experience with fire safety areas such as means of escape, fire protection systems, fire separations, and passive fire treatment systems. Experience in applying the NZBC ‘acceptable solutions’ C/ASx documents to the built environment within NZ would be an advantage, as would specific fire engineering design.
  • Experience in construction observation and contract management including familiarity with preparing and managing documentation including RFI’s, CAN’s etc. Good attention to detail and observation skills on site are required.
  • Effective communication skills including technical report writing and verbal communication. Comfortable attending meetings and talking confidently within limits of knowledge and experience. To demonstrate good awareness of when to seek support advice within the Fire Engineering team.
  • Capabilities to use computer pdf drawing, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and cloud-based document management systems.
  • A related professional engineering tertiary degree with experience in fire engineering design and / or fire safety systems would be an advantage.
