Dunedin International Airport

Dunedin International Airport - Terminal Revitalisation

The Terminal was completely revitalised to assist in the potential increase in domestic and international traffic. The new building allowed for an integrated check-in facility, modernised departure lounges, and improved international processing. This included swing gates for co-shared departure/ arrival facilities for domestic and international airline movements, modernised baggage handling facilities, and additional provision for security screening.

Cosgroves were commissioned as the fire engineers for this project, including providing strategic advice for the fire protection systems. The design included an open connection between the ground floor check-in and arrivals facilities, and the upper level departure lounges. This required alternate fire engineering design to demonstrate through active smoke control, that an open escalator/stair connection between the levels met compliance requirements.

The sprinkler system relies on site sourced water storage, requiring specific design to meet coverage requirements while adequately protecting associated perimeter risks. Managed alarm evacuation systems were included to limit the impact on airport operations if an evacuation occurs.
