Camp Glenorchy

Camp Glenorchy

The project

Camp Glenorchy, at the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park, is New Zealand’s most sustainably designed and operated visitor accommodation. The innovation and engineering behind the seven cabins, two bunkhouses and communal spaces are the focal points when it comes to design. It was built to reflect the imperatives of the Living Building Challenge, the most rigorous sustainability standard in the world. Regenerative spaces that connect occupants to light, air, food, nature, and community and self-sufficient while remaining within the resource limits of their site are the basic principles of a Living Building Challenge project. Living Buildings produce more energy than they use and collect and treat all water on site. Key factors for the camp were quality, originality, sustainability, innovation and influence. Cosgroves provided electrical reticulation, distribution and grid tied hybrid photovoltaic and stand-by generator power engineering design and construction observation services for this unique project.
