Queenstown Airport

Queenstown Airport - International Terminal Expansion

An additional 4,080m2 of facilities was added to the southern end of the terminal. This expansion doubled the size of the airport’s international operations and provided stunning floor to ceiling alpine views to waiting travellers. In addition new gate-lounges, retail spaces and a state-of-the-art customs processing area for up to 1,000 international passengers per hour were created.

The expansion has put the airport ahead of the curve in terms of accommodating existing and future passenger volumes. The airport welcomes 1.38 million visitors each year and international passenger volumes have grown from 24,000 in 2005 to 381,000 in 2015. In ten years international passenger numbers are expected to increase to more than 660,000.

The building services have been designed using the latest technology and heat pump plant and equipment in order to deal with the challenging climatic conditions. Systems are able to be updated and the BMS upgraded as new technology is introduced. The expansion has also provided for infrastructure to allow future terminal developments.
