Dunedin’s Mercy Hospital has been undergoing incremental improvements since 2014, with a preliminary estimate of 12 years of work. Initially engaged to assist with masterplanning, we have been retained to provide consultancy services for design and construction monitoring.
The development features new stand-alone surgery, cancer care, operating theatre, and recovery facilities, alongside significant improvements to existing wards. This has given us the pleasure of being involved in a variety of challenging and engaging designs.
This project is unique in that many upgrades to existing infrastructure had to be completed while the hospital continued to operate at full capacity. We came up with creative solutions to ensure day-to-day operations were not impacted. This included using segmented electrical and HVAC systems which simplified new additions, as well as providing specialised ventilation, lighting, gas, and hydraulic services for each space.
Mercy Hospital is a great example of how our industry enables us to positively impact people’s lives. Seeing the wider picture helps us to go the extra mile in our designs too; we know that functional and resilient systems are an integral part of Mercy Hospital’s vital services.
Being aware that we are working on a cancer ward or surgery theatre gives us a feeling that we are contributing to something very important, helping us to go the extra mile to ensure project success.
We have offices in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown enabling us to service the whole of New Zealand.
Our Team Members are the backbone of our success. We believe in the power of people.
