When providing consultancy services for the Michael Wyatt designed base facility at The Remarkables Ski Area, Cosgroves were presented with a number of services design challenges for this striking building. Due the extreme climatic conditions, systems needed to be capable of performing regardless of the ambient temperature.
The engineering design was carried out and documented in time for construction works to be undertaken over the 2014/15 summer period with completion on schedule for the 2015 ski season. To achieve this, a high degree of collaboration between Cosgroves and Arrow International was required to complete the build within the eight-month timeframe. Humidity due to large quantities of moisture generated by the storage of wet ski gear is a constant issue and thus the building is very well ventilated in order to control the build-up of condensation. A sophisticated Building Management System (BMS) controls and monitors all functions of the mechanical services electrical and lighting control systems. The BMS provides timeclock control of all systems as well as after-hours functions such as maintaining the building temperature out of occupancy hours to prevent issues caused by freezing conditions, and controlling humidity levels through the use of humidity sensing and control of ventilation systems.
Cosgroves were engaged to provide mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fire protection and fire engineering consultancy services.
